Manayunk is the steepest neighborhood we move in, and the hills are the whole story. The streets climbing up from Main Street and the canal are short, narrow, and seriously pitched, with switchbacks that a full-size moving truck can’t always take. Where a hill street is too tight or too steep, Sean stages the big truck on flatter ground near the river and the crew shuttles up in a smaller vehicle, or works the load down to it by hand with straps. Parking is just as snug, so we start when the block is quietest and, where the address allows, set a temporary no-parking zone at your door so there’s room to load.
The old mill buildings along the canal that have been converted to apartments bring their own wrinkles, freight doors, industrial stairwells, and sometimes a building certificate of insurance, all of which we sort out in advance.
